Using [French] Language to Define Your Identity

Identity is comprised of multiple intersecting parts: race, religion, class, ethnicity, language, education level, sexual identity, etc. How do we define and express our own identity, and how do we define the identity of others? For decades in France, you weren't supposed to talk about someone's blackness, unless you said it in English. In this episode of Code Switch, we meet the people who took a very French approach to changing their self-described black identity. Despite taking place in France, we see the same the experience of defining race and self-identification in the United States. Check out the podcast here!
