The Activist Roots of Intersectionality

Intersectionality often finds itself relegated to the realm of theory. It would be a serious mistake, however, to assume that intersectionality should be confined to the "ivory tower" since so much of what we discuss is topical and urgent. In this article, Hancock explores the dynamic relationship between activists, community organizers, and intersectionality scholars. Most notably, Hancock includes perspectives from the Global South. The global campaign to end gender-based violence is used as a powerful example of an issue that has been greatly informed both intersectional scholars and its practitioners.
