Sex, Gender, and Sexuality in Sport
Vikki Krane, et. all
Vikki Krane's edited collection serves as an effort to center diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions (SOGIE) in our discussions about sport. The book establishes the conceptual framework of what it means to have a diverse SOGIE identity, how these identities and the actual practice of team management and player experiences interact with each other, and recommendations for further inquiry on how to create a more equitable space in sport. Furthermore, it establishes how the sports environment is least hospitable to LGBTIQ athletes of color, transgender athletes, and LGBTIQ athletes in leadership positions, and highlights some of the most important factors to consider in discussions of LGBTIQ identities: the exclusion of the bisexual community, and the dangers faced by LGBTIQ youth.
