A Portrait of Marginality in Sport and Education: Toward a Theory of Intersectionality and Raced-Gendered Experiences for Black Female College Athletes
Sports studies are missing important academic contributions that focus on one of the most successful groups that participate in sport, Black women. Academic considerations are often discussed with a white cisgender male focus, and leave out, or misrepresent, experiences of Black female athletes. This article explores how the lived experience of being a Black female athlete can affect an athlete's development, and how the mistreatment and misrepresentation of these athletes often occur due to racial and gendered stereotypes that are specific to Black women.
